China Growth Woes Weigh on Asian Stocks: Asian stock markets were modestly lower, with sharp losses in the mining and steel sectors leading declines regional bourses.
An executive from BHP Billiton said Tuesday that demand for iron ore will flatten as growth in the world's second-largest economy cools. The comments followed the recent downward revision in China's gross domestic product growth target in early March and China's biggest trade deficit since 1989.
"Clearly any signs of a Chinese slowdown will manifest negatively…however the question remains, are we witnessing a hard-landing scenario in motion or China's grand plan to promote sustainable long-term growth?" Christopher Gore, currency analyst at Go Markets said in a note.
